Planning guidance only—not a guarantee. Requirements, network capacity, contracting, and payer review can affect timing and effective dates.
VA Community Care and CHAMPVA are distinct VA-administered programs and should not be described as a single commercial payer network. VA’s Community Care Network (CCN) is organized into five regional networks and is administered by third-party administrators: VA identifies Optum for Regions 1–3 and TriWest for Regions 4–5.
Providers seeking CCN participation should use VA’s official Community Care Network guidance to identify and contact the administrator for their region. The administrator’s response, credentialing, contracting, and written participation notice determine the available network relationship; a request to join or portal registration is not an approval.
CHAMPVA serves eligible family members and survivors and has its own VA guidance. CHAMPVA billing or provider-information processes do not establish CCN participation. Keep CCN, other VA community-care arrangements, and CHAMPVA instructions separate when planning enrollment or claims operations.
VA does not publish one universal provider onboarding or credentialing promise for all programs and regions. Confirm the program, region, administrator, participation status, and effective date in writing before in-network representations or billing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are VA Community Care Network and CHAMPVA the same?
No. CCN is VA’s regional community-provider network. CHAMPVA is a separate VA program for eligible family members and survivors, with different guidance and processes.
Who manages CCN enrollment?
VA identifies Optum as the third-party administrator for CCN Regions 1–3 and TriWest for Regions 4–5. Use VA’s current CCN page to identify the proper regional contact.
Does a CCN inquiry create network participation?
No. Contacting an administrator starts the process. Credentialing, contracting, participation, and the effective date require the applicable VA or administrator confirmation.
